Educational Surround Academic Premier of Kinky Boots

As a member of the Educational Surround Arts Management Production team for the Academic premiere of Kinky Boots at Baldwin Wallace University, my job was to help promote the show’s message of acceptance, inclusion, and entrepreneurship beyond the show. I helped plan 8 post-show talk-backs with 8 different guests on acceptance and inclusion, design a lobby experience to engage 450+ patrons every night of a 12 show run and communicate directly with numerous different people to bring everything together.

In the Lobby, my team designed a Kinky Boots photo prop and an activity titled ‘Fill the boots” where patrons could write how they ‘let love shine’ on a post-it and stick it to the boots. Also in the lobby, one would find a resource table, voter registration table, and LGBTQ+ history exhibit. Additionally, I also created a list of conversation starters around topics of acceptance and inclusion specifically in the LGBTQ+ community. These were put on posters that also included QR codes for LGBTQ+ resources and entrepreneurship resources and put in the 4 bathrooms in the theatre.

I was tasked with keeping track of the attendance at talk-backs, gauging how successful lobby activities were, and keeping contracts for talk-back guests.
